God is the Gospel

I heard about this new work from John Piper on his daily radio program. Last night I swung by Praises (out local Christian bookstore) and picked it up. Looking forward to reading it and getting a better understanding of who God is and how He glorifies Himself through His message to us.

The Gospel

I was listening to John Piper the other morning on CDR while I was at work. He finished his broadcast by emphatically defining the Gospel. The Gospel is NOT about living a good life, its NOT about going to church, and its NOT about having all your neeeds met financially, emotionally or otherwise. It is NOT about a 12 step program for getting into heaven or even staying out of hell. The Gospel is about God, and God alone. Soli Deo Gloria as the Reformers said. We want to make the Gospel and life itself about us, for our own good, our own comfort, our own security. But it is only about Him. It is for His glory and purposes. The Gospel is God reaching down in His sovereign grace, through Christ’s sacrificial death on the Cross – redeeming us and declaring us righteous in His eyes through no effort of our own. For His glory. For His glory alone.

coffee

I really like coffee. And I really like coffee shops. And since I left NY I have been longing for a good coffee shop to kick back in. And now, thanks to a friend and one of her coworkers, I have found out that there is a quality coffee shop right here in good ol’ Scioto county. Woohoo. Its called the Port City Cafe and Pub. My friend and I checked it out last night, we each had a cafe mocha and I am impressed. And I can’t wait to stop by there again. And you should stop by, too. Click here or just head on down to Chilicothe St.

update:   Port City no longer has coffee, I am told…what a bummer………..

Schroon Lake

I had the joy of calling the Schroon Lake area “home” for three years (and several summers) while I worked at Word Of Life. I can’t even begin to describe the immense beauty of the Adirondack Mountains, the lakes and the rivers that flow into them. Breathtaking.
